At MPS we pride ourselves in the fact that we promote the Arts from the earliest stages of child development until their journey ends in Matric. Our aim is not only to promote and develop each art form as an individual subject, but also to unite the arts as a whole. For this reason the Performing and Creative Arts Faculty was formed as a separate faculty in 2014, with its own infrastructure, governance and logo. This allows us to really promote the arts in a way that is sometimes difficult in a normal school setup. We launched this momentous occasion with a big concert, ‘Ignite’, where literally everything culture at MPS took part. The following year saw an excellent rendition of the famous play by Oscar Wilde, ‘The importance of being Earnest’, hit the planks.
Opportunities for learners to take part, perform and showcase their talents abound at MPS. We have dance groups, drama groups, Choirs, Vocal groups, a Saxophone Ensemble, HS Band, Speech Choir and instrumental tuition. From cultural assemblies, special assemblies, external exams, Eisteddfod, West Coast Song Festival, Choral Ignite mass choir event, and our annual MPS Factor competition, there is plenty of space for each learner to develop and shine. We strive to develop a positive experience for each learner on stage to develop the self-confidence necessary to excel in the arts. Visual Art and Design is also not left behind, as it forms part of the MPS Factor competition with a magnificent art exhibition every year. Our matric results in this field is also of the highest in the Western Cape.
